New Mexico
winter sucks there, and been worse and worse the past 3 to 5 years.

Big, loose, cold barn confinements or semi confinements...Keeps those cattle DRY, thus better feed conversion, gains etc. gonna more than offset some bedding costs and building costs.

DRY is a big deal on cattle ( sheep too ) over time.
Be less to no DL on dry cattle EVERY time vs if they cannot get dry.
Less pulls, better drug responses etc.

I think those States with alot of E are going to expand cattle feeding to apporx Double the number they are currently feeding within 5 years.

MOST ( 95% ) that will be cold barn confinement, semi confinement setups.

Simply to Wet of winters there now to do it any other way.
Nother thing about a ROOF, is in the summer...they are not trying to gain in MUD.

Many areas of the Midwest get alot more moisture now than in the past.

Those areas which used to get say 22 to 24 inches of moisture in the W cornbelt tend to get 30 to 35 inches moisture now.

E, the areas which used to get 30 to 35 inches of moisture, trend is now in the 50 inch range.

Times change.
