| Worked for a farmer neighbor during summers in highschool. One day late summer, another fella showed up to help part time. I knew the other guy somewhat, always figured he had a pretty good job at a local feedlot. Not sure what his deal was, really good guy, had a good family, guess things had just fallen on hard times. Pretty much was doing the same thing I was, running equipment, light mechanical work, running irrigation water. I suspect he was getting paid quite a bit more than I was. Didn't bother me at all. I was happy with my wage, and anything past that was none of my business. And I knew he needed way more than I did. But it was one of those little lessons that stuck with me.
I have had the great privilege of working for and with many different people in a few different fields. Some would give you the shirt off their back to help a person out. Others wouldn't sell me the time of day at high noon. Learned a lot took away a little at each one. | |
