We put herd bulls out around father's day, and bulls with heifers 2 weeks later. We like the heifers to see and be around calves before they have their own. I think they learn a lot from the older cows calving first. Our young cows have access to bunks most of the summer so we can spray for flies, and supplement their feed as needed.

I think that sounds really good, the only problem I can think of is by calving them later than the cows, aren't they going to breed back later and over the long run you are either extending your calving season or moving the whole thing back each year?
