You beat me to the 8 gallon bit, but cream cans were lined with "tin", not the tin can kind but the same tin that was used in cream separators -rust resistant, melted and flowed like lead solder to cover imperfections or scratches and non toxic.
Clean up any rusty old cream can, give it a tin wash and it would be as shiny as new-but you might need a tinkers dam!
