| Any way to direct market product. We do sheep and we sell wholes and halfs as pasture raised and local. We also sell meat at farms markets (USDA slaughter), have some of the hides processed and sell them, have the wool made into blankets and comforters, and have some soap made with sheep's milk (about a quart of milk makes 10 to 15 bars of soap.)
Our farm is a little more than an hour outside of Boston so we have a ready made audience that wants local and grass raised and they have some bucks to spend.
If you do not have a close by market, you still might be able to do the whole and halves if they are grass finished (or close to it, we call it pasture raised, less than 10% of their diet is concentrate). I would NEVER ship frozen meat, but something like jerky might work and it has a shelf life.
We also sell hay to horse people, they are very reliable customers | |
