| for 30-40 head I wouldn't bother with a tub . I would just build a stripping chute that you can run 6-8 calves in at a time with a slide gate at the end . If you need you can drop a squeeze in front of it . with those kind of numbers who big of hurry are you in . Taper the end of a alley down to the chute put a one way gate in have gate that you can swing to lock your calves in .
The ranch I was on had a set up like this , except we ran in 20 calves at a time . We did a 1000 calves a year through that chute .
Most problems I see in handling calves is the alleys are to wide , someone trys to take to many cattle , and everyone is in a big frigging hurry . The cattle aren't going to load in that tub if the can see a little kid hanging on the back side or a dog running back and forth or the mornon with the hot shot at the tub gate . Just saying a tub is not a bandaid for poor stockmanship. | |
