southern MN | I have 25 head of mixed sizes that graze 90% of the time. As my old barn is situated, the water & the 'cow yard' is situated 275 feet from a county ditch. Situation of the barn & water lines & topography doesn't allow me to easily move this another 25 feet...
This requires a permit every 4 years & review & inspection & manure plan (I generate 4-6 small spreader loads of manure pack a year...) & soil testing my crop land so I don't wreck everyone's water. Should be $50 for the inspection, tho I bypassed the cost last time. I'm listed as a feeder cattle yard with up to 33 animal units. They graze pasture all summer, and cornstalks/ oats stubble all winter until the snow gets too deep, then they get round bales in the fields - to scatter manure, and a tiny bit of grain.
No red tape there.
