Western Nebraska | That sounds like a fairly small fencer. Look at something bigger. It will cost you quite a bit more, but you need to keep your cattle in. Dead fences are both annoying and a big liability issue. As far as using 12V batteries, we get a couple of the biggest marine 12V we can find, hook them together with a solar panel and a 3 joule fencer and they stay charged for several months. The one place you don't want to skimp is on your fencer because it will give you no end of headaches if you do.
