I use Cattlemax for my small commercial beef herd. It takes a while to learn its many capabilities but once you do I don't think you would have cattle without it or something similar. There are so many different types and numbers of data in raising cattle that can easily get lost without a computer program to keep track. I would say Cattlemax and a scale will pay for themselves many times over for most producers. I do not know how it would work on an handheld. I carry a small notebook for most field observations and enter comments etc in the evening. I am experimenting with RFID eartags and a wand so that weights will get entered into the scalehead more or less automatically and can be transferred to Cattlemax with a serial cable in the evening.
