So many things are now done via computers that I wonder how many trips are completely necessary.  I stood in a 10x10x10 box and "walked" through Notre Dame Cathedral.  I saw around columns and could and down at objects.

With computer generated objects and computer generated images plus the ability to talk to people face to face using large monitors should alleviate a lot of travel for business.

We accept digital signatures.  Computer power is progressing at an astounding rate and those business's that still feel the need to send people at a cost of time and money far beyond using a computer will end up out of business.
