I've seen them work when it looked pretty hopeless, and I've seen them fail when it looked like the cow would recover. The other option is one of those inflatable water bags, but unless you are in an area with lots of dairy cows it would be hard to find one of them. A veterinarian once told me that the best bed for a downer cow was a deep pile of sawdust, since it wouldn't pinch off circulation and would allow enough traction for her to get up if she tried to. | |
