Youre telling me stay away from longhorns. OK, thats why they were so cheap I guess. Trying to lean on the old-timer to help us buy the cows. Only know what I can learn reading online or here, so thanks for the input. They might both be old, i just know they looked poor.

Basic plan is there is a pile of corn silage here, one field that the dairy rejected, said dry matter was too low. I think the pit was full, and last field of year they were looking for excuses not to put up a small pile or bag. Want to buy low BCS cull cows in the fall, feed them for the winter, and sell in the spring. Hopefully time the cycle in the market, recoup some value from silage. Develop an alternative grass rotation for some dryland peanut land (fall grazing, maybe a dryland corn silage crop next year). Hope not lose money. Going to try it on a small scale.
