Subject: Re: Corn Damage Question

Ottawa, Illinois
I always considered a relationship between density and damage. denser corn lasts longer. Last year poor test weight from a lack of heat in the summer meant the crop wasn't going to last long. Yeah, it was coming out of the field with 2-3% damage. Few notice or care when it's below 5% but if expect 0% damage and start at 2.5, there isn't much room before the discount and the corn rots faster. With the extraordinaire high moistures last fall, after drying the corn, there was more damage. I'm surprised the corn lasted this long.

Now the elevators getting corn at 5% or higher, there is nothing to blend with it to bring it done to 5%. 11% gets rejected.
