Subject: substituting brown sugar

Eastern Nebraska
I have a recipe for a pear pie that calls for regular sugar.  I want to substitute brown sugar to give it a slightly different flavor and need to know how much to use in place of the white sugar.  It calls for 3/4 cup white sugar would I use 3/4 cup brown sugar?  More??? or Less???? Pack it down... measure it loosely??? Thank you for your help....
