consider, when I look at southern Iowa corn bids, there is between 30 and 40 cents carry to December right now and December basis isn't even all that great historically. Assuming good enough quality corn to store that long, and knocking a dime off for interest and handling costs, that still leaves a lot to go towards paying for a bin in only 5 months time. That is what some of those elevator managers are doing if they are smart.
