NW Washington | If you have a lot of minerals in your water you will have to take the tankless heater apart periodically to clean out the mineral, like calcium deposits. That would be a deal breaker for me.
My daughter and SIL have a Rinnai and they think it is great. The big minus for a tankless is the initial cost and the paying the plumber to install them. They need a special gas line and exhaust/intake vents so installing them on an outside wall is best. I think there is still a tax break for using one of them. Bosch is the other big tankless heater on the market.
