Subject: Re: wheat protein levels/ Northern vs. Southern areas

SRW is not considered a high pro wheat class

The buyers use it for different uses

We never get protein check in our area, because it is all the same and used for the same thing

Not usually worth as much as your high pro wheat

Lots of different markets and kinds of wheat and specs.

We have more problems with quality, moisture, sprouting, toxin etc.

Such as it will not stop raining so we can harvest or see it go to grade 3 on quality issues

Every bu. is going through the drier, in our area, this yr. Harvest @ 18% or less, just to get it done before a grade 3 or worse

Our elevators have learned how to dry wheat, rather well

Great Lakes region, white and SEW is grown, but white wheat is really a gamble for sprouts and quality
It is used for human consumption, if the quality is perfect
5% of our acres are wheat and 50% or the problems, but we need it in some of our soils for soil structure, compaction the big one
and soil tilth also a big reason [ hard clay soils]
