Subject: RE: Disenfectant for Finisher barns

NW Iowa. / SW Arizona
I really like Vircon-S as an disinfectant. My vet claims it's the best out there. One thing you have to be careful with this product is NOT to have any standing water left in the pens that have the Vircon mixed with it. It can be deadly for the hogs. I have water troughs in my confinements & I always disinfect first then come back with the power washer & blow out the troughs with clean water. If I have a bad disease go through the barn I sometimes will disinfect with the Vircon first; let it dry & then come back with another product like Tek-Trol to get two different modes of disenfecting done.

The key to disenfecting is make sure your barn is dry BEFORE you disinfect it, & let it dry before putting hogs back in the building. If it's not freezing outside open up the barn as much as you can & let the fresh air in there.

I was at a meeting years ago & I remember a vet saying letting your barn, trailer dry after cleaning it is as if not more important then using disinfectant.

Good-luck
