I was always told if you have livestock, you will have dead stock. Also one guy I know told me once, when I said something about losing cattle to death loss. Said those that have, must lose some! I told him that one back when he complained to me about losing a couple of calves last year. He sure didn't like it, when the shoe was on the other foot!


When I was in HS I helped an older cattleman that would brag about saving 14 calves in the 1972 April blizzard, he said most lost a lot of calves in that storm be he didnt lose any. Sometimes doing that extra thing will save a calf or two, I always think about that when we get some bad weather. IMO bad weather is the hardest thing on small cavles, but nice weather is the best thing for them
