Thanks for the great pics, Bill! Looks like too many chores to do to suit me LOL! Are the calves in the hutches all potential replacement heifers? Is there much of a market for bull calves? What is the bedding in the free stall? Looks like sand to me? Sorry for all the questions!

Dairy in western SD is virtually non-existent anymore. When I was a kid we milked 12 cows by hand, seperated and sold cream. Skim milk went to the hogs. Can't beat home grown butter or ice cream. Mom had a wooden bowl, paddle and brick maker to make 1 lb bricks of butter. Wrap in wax paper and freeze it. Mom also would make cottage cheese and yogurt but as a kid I wasn't into that stuff.
