Mike Shimek - 1/28/2010 05:55 This "all natural" and "organic" crap really irks me. It is nothing more than a play on words. Genetically modified produce? There is GMO sweet corn, but I am unaware of any other GMO vegetables at this time. /QUOTE]
One of the best arguments concerning GMO foods I heard from another farmer telling of his discussion with a consumer was his statement that Iceburg Lettuce was a GMO designed to last longer during transport. Is that true?
The "organic consumer" said they would never eat GMO, and this smart and saavy farmer listed a large group of commonly used GMO vegtables, the rest I cannot remember. His point was that we have been eating modified foods for years without concern.
I really do not know the truth of that statement.
My argument with modified foods concerns the age-old process of animal breeding without individual gene modification, all in the attempt to provide more food at less cost. My question is why changing an individual gene makes it worse.
