Extreme SW Minnesota Iowa border | Sometimes, it doesn't help to call the electrician. I have an old civil Defense Gen set, that is only 20 KW, but it puts out 3 phase, and is variable voltage. It was kind of hard to wire, so I hired an electrician. He drew all kinds of diagrams, and did all his charts. Every thing tested out fine at his shop. We hauled the whole skid to my place, and he hooked it up, and we all standing there ready to test the transfer switch,and................................. CRACK. YUp. The ground was in the lug were the were the middle leg for 3 phase was supposed to be. We had 180 volts going backwords in our ground circuts for a split second. It burnt out a bunch of lights, and a shop radio, but, He was a Master electrician. Sometimes, even the pros goof up.
