Fill 5 gallon bucket full, now fill three gallon bucket full from 5 gallon bucket. 2 gallons left in 5 gallon bucket, mark side of bucket with mud. Empty 3 gallon bucket and then pour the two gallons from the 5 gallon bucket into the three gallon bucket.
Fill 5 gallon bucket to the mark and you have two gallons in each bucket total 4 gallons.
