Subject: RE: Kansas City vacation

I would suggest that you would want to stay on the Kansas side, like others have mentioned the Great Wolf Lodge by the NASCAR track is a good place if you have kids. They are building a new water park there too, but I don't think it will be finished by this summer, but I could be wrong. The biggest attractions for kids on the Missouri side are Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun. Either of them are just a short drive if you're staying on the Kansas side, to be honest I would not want to stay anywhere close to them if I was coming to town. Someplace you can drive to, but wouldn't want to be there much once the sun went down.

Cabelas is close by, the T-Bones minor league baseball team has a lot of promotions designed for kids, I know last year they could go run the bases after the game. The Steamboat Arabia is a good spot for all but the youngest of kids, my wife loves to go see it. Union Station has a few things of interest in their Science Fair.

The Legends offers some good shopping by the Lodge. If you want to drive 30 minutes, look up Parkville, MO, they have a whole section of town that has a bunch of little shops there your wife might like. Of course there is the Plaza, but when you get down there you start paying a premium for the atmosphere at some places.

For food I will throw a lot of things out, the BEST BBQ in KC is at Jack Stacks, period, end of statement. The closest one to the Lodge will be the one at 95th and Metcalf in Overland Park, about a 25 minute drive. They have a full line of bbq, their onion rings are huge, most will cover the palm of your hand, I can handle a lot of food, but my wife and I normally can't eat but 3 of their onion rings each. Jack Stacks leaves the rest of the bbq places in KC in the dust. They have a cheesy corn bake and some fantastic deserts if you still have room. If you want second best with a zesty flavor, K&M BBQ in Spring Hill, about 40 minutes south of the Lodge is one of those giant places in a small town that everyone within 45 miles of here has probably been to.

For other food, Strouds has probably the best fried chicken in KC, they have a restaurant up along I-35 north of KC and another in Leawood, just to the west of the Plaza area. All served homestyle, my mouth is watering now. My wife loves a place called Bucca de Beppo, but I've never been there with her yet, she says it is family style Italian and is really great food, when you need more you just raise your hand and they bring what ever you want. It is on the Plaza just south of the downtown area of KC.

If you're into beer, the Yard House in the Legends by the Lodge might interest you, they have over 100 beers on tap. My wife loves the food there, but I stick to a steak or sliders. The NAT group ate there last year when they were in KC. We go there 3 or 4 times a year.

For the kids there is a Jimmy Buffet Cheeseburgers in Paradise also by the Legends. The food is pretty decent and the kids will get a kick out of it. Sometimes they have a fellow making balloon toys there for the kids, you might want to call and see if he's going to be there and pick that night.

Of course there are the casino boats if you are so inclined. Harra's has a Toby Keith's I Love This Bar restaurant there where you can get things like meatloaf and fried bologna sandwiches, pretty good food if you are so inclined.

Hope that gives you some more things to think about.
