You still may be able to sand your hardwood floor and have it refinished using one of those big walk behind sanders. But this is not a job for amateurs. It would be a shame to cover up a real hardwood floor if you did not need to. My son has managed to re-do hardwood floors in 3 old houses so far do it this way.
