A neighbour stopped in and brought him a coffee. Those would be the imfamous Tim Horton coffee cups that litter up our countryside.

That's the expression I was trying to come up with! There's also the one "He who cuts his own wood is twice warmed", except the wood gets handled more than twice here. Cut, split, throw in shed to dry, load bucket, throw in basement, pile, stick in fire, carry out ashes. It's alot of work, but there is nothing like a wood fire to come home to on a cold day.
