I use a 110V 400 W / 800 W peak inverter in mine. It runs the computer and a printer just fine. My laptop draws 19.5 volts 130 w, and I've seen it not work too well with a drained battery and weaker inverters. I have my inverter wired direct rather than use the power accessory socket. Wattage and voltage vary from unit to unit, so be sure that yours is adequate. I have successully charged the battery with lower output units with the unit powered down before.

I don't believe it is recommended that you hook a laptop direct to a vehicle's DC voltage.
