Wyoming

Most of the DSL rollouts to residences are what we propeller-heads call "ADSL" when customers aren't around. ADSL is asymmetric (hence the "A") and have different download speeds from the upload speeds.

The speeds you're quoting are "download / upload" speeds.

Most people don't upload all that much. Unless you're looking for really fast service, the cheapest alternative you list there (1.5 down, 384 up) will seem like a huge improvement over any satellite service for two reasons:

1. Your satellite delay is going to go away.

2. Most all satellite services are throttling your bandwidth usage, and especially your upload speed. The satellite upload speeds are 100 kbps, until you start using that pretty regularly, and then most satellite services will start to slow down your upload speeds even more.

The 1.5 mbps download speed will seem at least twice as fast as your satellite download speeds. The 384 kbps upload speed will be over three times the speed of your current upload speeds.

And you won't have the same type of usage quotas you're probably "enjoying" right now.
