Don't know if it is better or not but we used bats first as we constructed with styrofoam ventilation inlets stapled to underside of roof to the eaves then we came back with bagged blown in insulation with the idea it would help cover any cracks in the bats.
Rented a blower, special deal from supplier of bags of insulation.
Dirty job but was able to get good coverage with R factor quite high.
Daughter cut bags into machine and I ran hose.
