Subject: JD 4840 steering problem

Temple, TX
After replacing the steering arm seal, the steering is super sensitive. It wants to go to full lock with the slightest steering wheel movement. All I did was drop the steering arm shaft out, change the seal, and put it back in. What could have gone wrong?
Update.
I took the steering shaft back out and this part was laying in there. How do I put it back in? Do I need a new one because of the scoring or can I just clean it up?
Another update.
I got the rack gear rolled up and the pin in. I cannot get the gear rolled all the way back down. Any tips on how to hold the pin in while rolling the gear down? Also, once I get that done I will probably need some insight on how to get everything in there timed since it has all moved around.
