Subject: Leaning timber frame barn

Milford, IL
My neighbor has an old barn. He stopped by the shop the other day and asked if I had an opinion on how to repair it, as a strong gust of wind had blow it out of square. He mentioned he had a heavy duty come along and some chain affixed at the proper angle to shore it up, but was unable to accomplish the task with that equipment. I mentioned (without having seen the barn) that I have a wheel loader and we may be able to utilize the loader to assist in making the repair.

I stopped by his place this afternoon to look and it is my opinion that the barn needs to come down. I have attached a few pictures, I think the lean is too great and frankly was not brave enough to walk inside to examine things further. The barn sits on a short concrete foundation about 6" above grade and has a wooden plate bolted to the foundation, then timber frame up from there. Siding is fair to poor, pictures show the North side which is better than the South. I told him I'd ask agtalk for opinions.
