You might try oats. In warm conditions they will get enough top growth to cut for hay in 60 days. They should be mature enough to kill with a roller by the time you will plant pumpkins. If left to maturity they will provide a large amount of cover, planted at 50 lbs per acre.


Yep, oats like the cooler spring, and should work, guy at church is loving oats cover for his corn. Maybe down there oats is hard to find, but worth a look.
