| The 08 crisis root cause was poor underwriting criteria for the housing secondary market via the government agencies Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The banks learned how to game the poor rules created by these agencies. It worked until it didn't.
I do not think more regulation or government involvement would help anything. In fact I would far prefer banks that make these loans feel the consequences of them. | |
