The life of a tree is rough in our area.............without irrigation. As kids..........we had a 55 Ford pickup, which we filled a measly 300 gallon water tank in the back and watered every tree one at a time. Also used the hoes to keep away the weeds. As we entered high school and beyond........the folks lost their help. So the trees had to man up and live on their own. Between the subsequent grasshopper swarms..........and droughts, one by one they died off. There was literally one big evergreen that had survived until the wildfire of 2018 got it too.
Getting a tree to grow here..........that doesn't live along the edge of a creek, takes pretty constant maintenance. Lucky us.
