central nebraska | If I recall correctly I think our tower required a concrete column 1' down for every 10' that went up. We also had a boot pit that was 20' below the ground level and the tower was going around this. The contractor that did the work asked an engineer friend of his about the placement of the concrete columns going down. They wanted them below the bottom of the floor of the boot pit regardless of what the requiement was for the height of the tower. We ended up boring the columns 25' deep to get them below the floor I think they were 30" diameter. The thought was that wherever the columns end is where the force is exerted out horizontally, they though if the columns were only 15' deep it could cave the walls of the boot pit in. We installed a brownie tower I can look and see if I can find a book for the tower we have. I think our tower is 15'x15'. | |
