I don’t see why RB is being called shady on this unless they knew all along.
Auction companies can only represent what they are told. When I sell equipment nobody from the company verifies or inspects anything. I tell the auction company what to put in the ad.
Looks like they did the right thing here , other companies have done similar when misrepresentation is exposed also
People are generally trusting, but it blows my mind the people who buy stuff without looking or even making a phone call to seller first.
There has to be some level of responsibility by somebody in the sales chain, or prices will drop to fire sale values. Ritchie Bros obviously doesn’t want that.
As-is industrial equipment auctions with absolutely no form of resolution or guarantees are a thing, and prices reflect that aggressively.
In the used car auction world, forced arbitration for invisible or concealed problems is a normal thing. For the dollar values being spent on agricultural and construction equipment, it blows my mind something similar doesn’t exist.
