Subject: RE: Planting Cucumbers

coast of Maine
A vacuum 7200 JD will work super.A Monosem ,,,the best.Very similar seed vacuum systems but the Monosem has way closer tolerances .No seed leakage.Pressure blow off on the Monosem also. Most cukes are not transplanted but some are.We do some early that way but here soil temp is the killer even at transplanting. One very key thing for you home owner type cuke transplanters,,,never ever touch the stem base,,leaves sure, but squeeze that stem base and the minute hairs that protect that surface will be damaged and your wilts /diseases,etc will enter there easily. Some use planters that go thru poly in the cooler areas. Here very little can be grown on bare dirt as season is so short and usually wet.We always call pickler cukes,,Pickles. If you say go harvest that field of cucumbers,,how do you know they are going to pick the long greens or the pickles?
