Southwest Illinois | If I recall correctly, 5% goes to the state, 1% comes back to the municipality and .25% goes back to the county. The question I have never gotten a straight answer is if you charge sales tax outside of a city, what happens to the 1%? The best I have heard is if there is no city to pay it to it just remains with the state. I have heard some county leaders complain that the state never pays back the exact amount collected. As typical in Illinois you can't get much of an explanation. | |
