The dome roof keeps rain and snow off the silage surface and the unloading machine. Roof does nothing to prevent spoilage of silage.
I start feeding as soon as silo is filled to prevent spoilage from starting.

Rain and snow aren't good for the silage, and especially not the unloader. A roof on a stave silo does nothing for spoilage as far as limiting oxygen is concerned. Keeping moisture off the silage surface would likely lessen spoilage, so a roof would help with that.
