| I watched my mom do this to a dealer (I was there to look over the car she was interested in, but otherwise she's more than capable of handling dealers herself). They balked and stuttered that it's a standard fee and she just held firm that they had already agreed upon a price. They eventually relented, but it probably helped that she was buying a brand new car.
On the other hand I was looking at a worn down Cherokee XJ a local dealer had for $800. After they wanted to tack on $600 in dealer fees I walked out; they're nuts if they're thinking I'll pay that.
