Did some reading on that and I think it shoots my theory all to heck. If you short a dividend paying stock, you are responsible for paying the dividend. So you better be pretty sure it is going down and soon. Think in the case of oil stocks, when prices get high you would have better luck shorting crude futures as a hedge.
