Scranton | My identity is raising my kids. Two are kind, gentle adults now. (one is starting to farm alongside me, the other is training to be a special needs teacher). Third is severely autistic and 18. Fourth is a smart, caring 8 year old.
Don't get me wrong, I've probably worked too long and hard over the years. Always tried to be there for my kids along the way. Both boys ended up being very hard workers, but that's not all there is to being a good person. Lost my close friend a month ago suddenly and that has really made me take a look at life. If I didn't have a son interested in farming, I'd seriously think about selling all my ground and retiring now at 56. But I know how hard it was to start without a land base, and if I rented to him, I wouldn't have much to live on after making land payments. So I guess we keep on keepin on for another decade then look at things again. | |
