E. CO, exactly half way between NE and OK | We have land in my area that has been in crp since '85 paying people that inherited the land $50,000 a year and they have never farmed in their life. Now they came out with the grass conservation program the will pay these big ranches $20 an acre and can still run cattle on the grass. Some of the people that have inherited the ranches don't even live in the area and won't rent the land to someone to run cattle, they just collect the $20 an acre. Most years you can't make $20 an acre on the grass and people wonder why the cattle numbers are down causing meat to be higher in stores. |
