Subject: Buzzards

Schlegel Farms, Hagerstown Indiana
I'm looking for ideas about what to do about some Buzzards that live nearby.

They roost at the edge of town and have made a mess for homeowners over the past several years.

The Buzzards have roosted in the same trees for years but were always the redheaded turkey buzzard variety.

Last year was the first time I saw a couple of black-headed ones, this year they are all the black-headed ones

Last year the Black-Heads killed a calf in the neighborhood so they are a problem.

I took these pictures yesterday and today, there is not a red-headed one in the bunch which leads me to think the black heads ran the red-headed ones off.

I know Buzzards are federally protected, but what would be a good plan here in Indiana to help with this problem?

You can see in the one picture how close to town they are, making the SSS plan unusable.
