Wisconsin | That would have been turned on a lathe, maybe an automatic lathe at the time? Then either finished by hand carving, or another machine? I'm sure there's better knowledge out there on the old church furniture makers that built most of the WI church woodwork.
I'd get a woodworker to turn that, then a carver to finish the turning to match, it won't be hard at all to make it blend in. Use kiln dried maple, walnut or cherry, glued up is fine. Boxed center will crack, any wood turner should know that. | |
