Just 3. Rate module, swath module, implement switch module. You can add 2 more swath modules to control a total of 36 sections with a conventional system.
Edit: attaching a pic of the line art for a Raven Accuflow to give someone an idea of how the modules connect. It's a lot simpler than it sounds describing it.
