Some of you may be testing your Ag Leader Direct Command setups for spraying prior to season. A fairly common complaint I used to hear as a Tech was. "Everything seems OK but I can't get the section valves to turn ON. It was fine last year".

Here are some things to check:

1) Are you certain that the Liquid Product Control module (true for other modules as well) has High Current Power and Ground? The only way to determine this is to temporarily unplug the 2 pin Deutsch connector on the Red and Black wires at the module. Use a meter and test the incoming Red wire to the Black wire for 12V. Test between the Red and Black and not to the frame. Remember the flashing green LED on the module indicates that the CAN communication between the module and the display is healthy. It does NOT confirm that the High Current Power and Grounds are Healthy. You must use a meter.

2) Is auto swath inactive? If auto swath is set to active, it might be preventing the system from turning on the valves.

3) Is the target rate set to some value other than zero? The system will NOT open the section valves if the rate is zero. If you choose a "new" product, the rate will default to zero, the first time you select it. After that it will default to the last rate used for that product.

4) Do you have a working implement switch? If you don't have an implement switch, the connection must have a jumper inserted in the connector. Without a working implement switch in the application position or a jumper, the valves will NOT open.

There are other possible reasons for the problem but checking the above will catch the majority.

Those are pretty much the textbook instructions for the legacy LPCM. I'll make a couple changes to reflect the ISO Liquid Module and Directcommand L2 since they are similar architecture. Namely they have independent modules for rate control, swath control, and implement switch. These should be the same for both ISO and L2 systems.

1. The rate and section modules both have 3 lights: power, 1, and 2. The power light is off when there is no CAN power regardless of whether there is high current (system is off). If there is CAN power but no high current (or high current is low), this light is red. This light is green if both power circuits are 12v. Light 1 is for communication with the swath module, light 2 is communication with the display. Flashing green is good, off is no communication, yellow, red, or amber is an error in a nutshell. Regarding high current power, both the rate and the swath modules will have their own high current connector. Also the swath module will likely (it can depend on the types of valves used) have a high current tee before the module where the cable going to the valves tees into high current so it is not passed through the module. If there are auxiliary valves used in tandem with the control valve, that cable will likely have a similar high current tee at the rate module. Anything connected to high current should always have 12+ volts.

2. Same applies.

3. Same applies regarding rate. I believe the same applies regarding the new product.

4. The implement switch has its own smaller module tied into the local CAN with the rate and swath modules. There are 2 lights on it. The status light will normally be blinking green like the other modules, yellow for an error, and red for CAN power but no communication, off with no power. The other light is the switch light, solid blue for the switch engaged and off for the switch disengaged. To troubleshoot or temporarily bypass the switch itself, a jumper can be used just like the jumper from the LPCM.
