Chariton Iowa | If a buyer has large commercial type yard orders, yes. If just basically farmer feeder type stuff, not really. 3-4 hour round trip daily, and getting there and flesh conditions or weight sorts don't work out for what you need, or another buyer shows up and really pushes the market. Hard to travel 70 miles to get a old boy a gooseneck load and have that commission pay gas and a days wage.
If they are judging cattle as they come in vs just buying cattle to just buy cattle makes a difference on what they can get done.
I can't believe the amount of cattle that get re-billed to what the order buyer wants to charge, and a commission on top of it! I would always want a salebarn receipt so I knew what the cattle actually cost.
To the original post, from what i have overheard in the office after sales as guys are billing out, $.45/hundred to $10 per head. There is a wide range depending on circumstances.
