Subject: RE: Central Iowa cows on stalks

West Central IA
Keep them on the stalks. Every year I have a small patch that has cows all winter, feed in tire bunks and blow bedding strips on it. End of May I pull cows off, disk it, Rip it with spring points, disk again and field cultivate. Plant it within a day of tillage and have raised 200 + bu. corn. I chop it and have cover crop on it, but It has always yielded very well with very little added nitrogen.
