I agree with thunderhut.
Grain farmers are paid on yield. I have to tie every part of the operation to increasing yields and decreasing cost of production. If cereal rye can increase yield or decrease my cost of production then I believe it would be worth while implementing it into my operation, however if I can't prove to myself that I'll make more money at the end of the day its not worth it out side of erosion control. I can't justify the cost of covers on fields that are not prone to washing.
If I owned 100% of my acres then maybe just maybe I would look at this subject differently but still how many years can you loose money and stay in business..
Last year my total herbicide cost for soybeans was under $20 per ac and my fields were clean. |
